POOLSIDE MOVIES – AUGUST 21 – SEPTEMBER 9
Orange Cinema is over and you’ve finally dried off from the annual Rhine Swim. . . but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of water AND cinema action in Basel! Head over to St. Jakob for “Kino Am Pool”! These poolside movies run from August 21 through September 9. Tickets cost 8 CHF and are available at Starticket (www.starticket.ch) or at the St. Jakob pool. The doors open at 8pm and food and drinks are available. The movie starts at sunset (around 21:15).
Before you pull on your swimsuit and head for the door, make sure to check the schedule carefully as not all movies are played in English. For example tonight’s showing of The DaVinci Code is in German.

EDGARD VARESE EXHIBIT – THROUGH AUGUST 27
This weekend is your last chance to see a very special exhibit at the Museum Tinguely. Edgard Varèse is one of the groundbreaking composers of the twentieth century, a man with close ties to artists and writers such as Antonin Artaud, Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp, Le Corbusier, Henri Michaux, Henry Miller, Joan Miró and Man Ray. The exhibition includes musical manuscripts and works of art, recorded examples and accompanying events – all designed to create a living picture of a major composer who had a lasting influence on generations of musicians from Pierre Boulez to Frank Zappa.

ASKED AND ANSWERED – PHOTOSHOP CLASSES IN BASEL?
A friend recently asked me if I knew of any place offering classes in Adobe Photoshop in the Basel area, so I thought I would throw it out to the group. If you are aware of a school or store that offers such a course, please send me an email. I will share the responses in the next newsletter.
In the meantime I did learn (thanks Carrie!) that www.HP.com has a free online course you can register for… they email you lessons each week: http://h30240.www3.hp.com/campuses/all_courses.jsp?&mcid=j7
