JAZZ D’OR – NOVEMBER 11-24
A new golden age of jazz is alive at the “Jazz d’Or” (Golden Jazz Festival). Held in Strasbourg from November 11-24, this huge jazz festival focuses on the work of many European and French jazz artists, with events that range from public concerts to masters classes for young musicians. AUTUMN FAIR – THROUGH NOVEMBER 12
The Basler Autumn Fair (Herbstmesse) continues through November 12 (Petersplatz until 15 November), so head over this weekend to get your last spin on the giant Ferris wheel in the Muensterplatz. The fair offers up hundreds of stands selling local goods and crafts all around Basel, as well as regional foods and drinks. .

AVO SESSION - THROUGH NOVEMBER 18
Through 18 November the “AVO SESSION” is taking place in Basel. Since 1986, this music festival has booked big names in the international music scene. The club atmosphere with its intimate setting makes this event unique. The program deliberately contains concerts in a wide range of musical styles. Upcoming concerts include:

If you “burn, burn, burn” for some good Johnny Cash tunes, don’t miss a special concert in the Burghof in Lorrach on Friday, December 22, at 8pm. Called “Remembering the Man in Black,” it features a German tribute band called the Thomas Kuhn Group, who will perform many of Johnny’s most popular songs. ROSARIO’S
I am always in search of a great wine bar. You know the type…something a bit cozy with a relaxed atmosphere, an interesting wine selection, and tasty food options for when I inevitably lose the momentum to make dinner. We found Rosario’s on one of our first nights in Basel and it has remained one of my favorite haunts. Its rose-colored walls and the glowing candles on the long wooden table add warmth no matter what the weather, as do the friendly people who work there. As the name might suggest, the wine selection and the menu (with great antipasti and a good vitello tonnato) are Italian. Make sure to read the chalkboards lining the walls for daily specials. In spring and summer, there are a few tables outside, but any time of year you can sit at the high barrel tables just inside the window and sip at your wine while watching the world walk by.
