ALPINE HIKE – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8

The autumn program for connexions social events club, is now available. We have a wide variety of exciting events and activities planned, for English-speaking adults. Upcoming events include:

Sunday, October 8 - High Alpine Hike from Grindelwald with spectacular views (full-day event).

This Sunday we are going to the Bernese Oberland for a spectacular hike. Weather permitting, this high Alpine hike above Grindelwald offers stunning views of glaciers and mountain peaks including those of the three giants, the Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau. Friday, October 13 - Exclusive Wine tasting at Mövenpick Weinkeller, 18.30 – 22.00

We will be tasting wines from Spain. The evening begins with an aperitif, two white wines and tapas. You will also have the opportunity to look around the impressive wine cellars. Then our experts at the Mövenpick Weinkeller will provide an interesting selection of nine red wines for us to taste. We will take a break mid-way to enjoy delicious paella. The Basel Childbirth Trust presents information on “Baby First Aid/Illness.” This event offers parents of very young children with important information and answers to your questions regarding minor injuries, illnesses and where to seek treatment when needed. WORLD FOOD DAY SYMPOSIUM – OCTOBER 16

In this symposium, entitled “ Capital for Development” the speakers examine how innovative funding mechanisms, including microfinance, can build prosperous rural SME sectors, and offer examples on how enterprise solutions are remarkably effective ways to reduce poverty.

Speakers include Prof. Dr. phil. Hans Dieter Seibel, from the University of Cologne, who is a specialist in rural and microfinance, and Chris West, Deputy Director, Shell Foundation, who has responsibilities for the Shell Foundation’s network of Pan-African SME funds.

Nikolaus Schultze, head of Strategy for the Syngenta Foundation will provide an introduction.

NOVARTIS CAMPUS EXHIBIT – Through November 26

Whether you work at Novartis or not, anyone who lives in Basel can’t help but hear about the Novartis Campus Project. Now an exhibit at the Basel Architekturmuseum let’s everyone see what all the fuss is all about.

As part of it’s a continuing series on the project, this exhibit is devoted to the two buildings completed on the Novartis Campus this year, Peter Märkli’s at Fabrikstrasse 6 and the building by Sanaa/Sejima & Nishizawa at Fabrikstrasse 4. The exhibit includes an explanation of how the buildings fit into the overall campus plan as well as essays about and sketches and photos of the two buildings.
