Sure, summer vacation may be over, and the long, desolate stretch of holiday desert begins. With no days off on the schedule before Christmas, aren’t we all starting to think about long days in Paris, Rome or London? Or maybe the sunnier climes of Barcelona, Lisbon, or Alicante?

Well fear not. Perhaps you haven’t heard, but the news just keeps getting better from the local airport. Our friends at easyjet, the airborne taxi service to expats in and around the Basel Area, has recently expanded its destinations, with direct flights too Marrakech, Morocco and Porto, Portugal—over 20 cities across Europe and beyond.

Sensing the opportunity in the air, Irish low-fare competitor Ryanair has come to Basel. They will be serving a handful of locales, including Stockholm, Barcelona, Valencia, Dublin, Alicante.

Calling all puckheads! The air is getting crisp, the leaves are starting to fall, and Zamboni is gassed up and ready—it must be time to drop the puck and start the 75th season of ice hockey in Basel.

The 2007-2008 version of the EHC Basel Dragons includes newcomers American Brett Hauer and Canadians Yves Sarault and Justin Papineau, as well as a full compliment of returning players from last year’s gritty, gutsy squad.

The home season for EHC Basel kicked off last Friday, September 14, at the St. Jakobs Arena. EHC Basel had a tough first week on the schedule, going 0-2-1. But there is a long way to go, and the team can always use your support.

For the full 2007/2008 season schedule, plus more info on tickets and prices, check the EHC Basel internet site. Tickets are also available at TicketCorner locations around Basel, including Manor Department stores and the SBB train station.

Come out and support EHC Basel and watch the greatest game on ice.

The Alphalive Course is for anyone wishing to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, non-threatening, low key, friendly and fun. There is a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other. Listen, learn, discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alphalive is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile. And it’s supported by all the main Christian denominations.

At the moment, this is the only course in the Basel area running Alphalive in English. There are 680 courses running in Switzerland, this one being one of only 10 in English.

If you are interested, you are invited to our Introductory Supper on Tuesday, September 4 at 19:00. The course itself starts Tuesday, September 11 at 19:00. For further information and to register please contact Mandy Muckett at +41 61 461 1001 or Petra Ramskogler at +41 79 569 7209, or via email at
