WHERE CAN I FIND GOOD ENGLISH-SPEAKING HAIR SALONS?
A haircut may be a haircut, but any American woman arriving in Basel will tremble in fear at the idea of getting her hair colored or highlighted by someone who doesn’t speak her language - especially after eyeing up the oddly tinted fuchsia hair of her Swiss and German colleagues. Here are a few American-friendly recommendations (for women and men):
L’Addresse Coiffure, www.ladresse.ch (061261 3980). Located at Leonhardstrasse 3 in Basel, this salon give great highlights and haircuts. The receptionist doesn’t speak much English but the owner does. They also carry a full range of Aveda products from shampoo and conditioner to skin products, candles and makeup. A bit pricy (haircut and highlight around 270 CHF) but worth it.
Euro Coiffure, www.eurocoiffure.ch, Elisabethanstrasse 28, Basel (061 271 7670). Ask for Cat. Mid-range prices, nice salon atmosphere.
Hair We Go - Steinentorstrasse 39, Basel (061 281 04 44) Located next to Paddy’s at Heuwaage, the English-speaking owner of this no-frills salon and her staff provide an excellent haircut and highlights at a reasonable price. Men, beware of the ’summer cut’ - it’s a little short.
TIP: If you love your existing color, ask your US hairstylist to write down the information about the coloring he or she uses on your hair and bring it with you to share with your new stylist in Basel.
